What to know before visiting Borobudur

Here are some tips you need to know before visiting Borobudur temple:

  1. There are limitation of people to walk up the temple. This will be a nightmare especially during the high season (July – August) that thousands of people flocking yet only 1,500 people per day (150 people per hour) can go up to enjoy the temple up close. You need book the ticket online through official website or ask your agency to help.
    Update : Now they have increased the number of people who can visit daily.
  2. Alternatively, you can do ground tour without worrying about the limitation and more flexible time, starting from 7 am to 5 pm.
  3. The structure ticket of Borobudur starts from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm that includes 1 hour guided tour on the temple, a pair of upanat (flipflop) and a bottle of mineral water.

  4. Sunrise overlooking Borobudur takes place on a hill 2 km away from a temple.Update : Now Borobudur is open for an exclusive sunrise tour at the top of the temple.
  5. Here are the rules of visiting Borobudur:
    – Keep it clean
    – No scribbles allowed
    – No smoking
    – No carry weapon
    – No moving the stones
    – No climbing allowed
    – No sitting on the stupa and the balustrade
    – No food allowed
    – No fly a drone
    – No bring musical instruments
    – No bring pets
    – No revealing clothing allowed
    – No dancing in the temple
