Ramayana ballet Prambanan is a show that combines dance and drama without dialogue, based on the Ramayana story, it’s performed near Prambanan Temple on Java Island, Indonesia. Ramayana Prambanan performs since 1961.
Ramayana stories based on Hindu epics adapted to Javanese culture make Ramayana ballet Prambanan a unique dance. More than 200 professional dancers and gamelan musicians participated in this Ramayana Ballet which took place on an open stage with Prambanan Temple as a backdrop. Ramayana Ballet is also based on the bas-relief at Shiva Temple, Prambanan.
Ramayana’s story is the journey of Rama in rescuing his wife Sita (usually called Sinta) who was kidnapped by the king of Alengka Kingdom, Rahwana. The Ramayana Prambanan Ballet is usually held every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, the performances on the stage are open only in the dry season, in the rainy season the performances are held on an indoor stage Trimurti.
