The Merapi Volcano Museum (Musium Gunung Merapi) is a geology museum located in Hargobinangun, Pakem, Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Region, Indonesia, approximately five kilometers south of the Kaliurang tourist area. Indonesia has the most active volcanoes in the world, with around 130-139, largely due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire. Merapi volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the world.
This museum focuses on education on volcanoes and other geological disasters with a recreational-educational approach for the wider community with the aim of providing insight and understanding of scientific, socio-cultural, and other aspects related to volcanoes and geological disaster sources. This museum also serves as a center for volcano information services in an effort to educate the public, as well as a medium for increasing public awareness and vigilance about the benefits and threats of volcanic eruptions and other geological disasters.
