Climbing Borobudur as per now (October 2022) the government still doesn’t allow visitors to climb Borobudur. The rate at which the stones at the Buddhist temple are wearing off has significantly increased in these years due to visitors thronging the temple daily, said Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno.
Visitors can walk around the pelataran / temple yard (see photo).
Update per May 07 2023 : The authority of Borobudur is now allowing climbing Borobudur for 1,200 people daily (150 people per hour) starting from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.
